How to Install a Mopar Chrome JK Front Tube Bumper

The first step in every installation is verifying you have everything to do the installation. Verify that all the nuts, bolts, and brackets are included, and gather the tools you will need. Most instructions tell what tools you will need. Don’t get worried if you get a lot of extra hardware, as most manufacturers include all the hardware for every application. You’ll just have to figure out which works for your specific application.

This installation was on a 2007 Jeep Wrangler JK. The exact steps for your application may vary slightly but the overall process will be the same for most jeep front bumpers.

Jeep Wrangler Bumper

Remove 4 fasteners in the front of the splashshield and let it rotate toward the floor and the rear of your JK.

Remove Fasteners

Remove 4 nuts from the back of the frame rails that hold the bumper on. These are located 2 on the outside of the rail and 2 on the inside of each side.

Remove the nuts from the frame rails

Disconnect the factory fog lights if your JK was equipped with them. If your new bumper is not equipped with fog lights, use electrical tape to protect the factory plugs and secure the wiring harness to the frame. Everything will be in good shape if you decide to add fog lights in the future.

Disconnect factory fog lights

Remove the factory bumper.

To install the new bumper, you will need either the tow hooks or the fasteners that are between the bumper cover and the bumper beam. To get to these remove 2 bolts from each side on the back of bumper beam and separate the cover and beam.

Now is a good time to trim the splashshield because you can get to it easily. We used a utility knife.

Put the new bumper in place and use either the tow hooks or fasteners and eight nuts to secure it.

The crash can covers install with the opening at the top if your JK is equipped with tow hooks and opening at the bottom if not. Each cover is secured with 4 bolts.

Check splash shield and trim if necessary. You may need to drill a couple more fastener holes if you had to cut some of the original ones off. Reinstall.

Install time is around 1½ hours and all that’s left to do is stand back and admire your new bumper and the rugged off-road look it gives your JK. This bumper is also available in a satin black finish.
